As set forth by the EPA and supported by a federal trade commission decision a unit, in order to be called a micro biological water purifier must remove, kill or an activate all types of disease causing microorganisms from the water, Including bacteria viruses and protozoan cysts so as to render the processed water safe for drinking therefore to qualify a microbiological water purifier must treat or remove all types of challenge organisms to the most specific standards.

What is log reduction?
Log Reduction is used to measure the removal rate of contaminants. “Log reduction” is a mathematical term used to show the relative number of live microbes eliminated from a surface by disinfecting or cleaning.
Log Reduction stands for a 10-fold (one decimal) or 90% reduction in numbers of live bacteria.
1-Log Reduction would reduce the number of bacteria 90%. This means, for example, that 100 bacteria would be reduced to 10, or 10 reduced to 1.

What does the term CFU mean?
CFU’s are Colony forming units. Each one is a cell of micro organisms.

EPA is the abbreviation for the United State Environmental Protection Agency.

Is there a charge for manufacturers to list their products on the Aqua Veritas site?
No. Aqua Veritas is a non profit organization which offers this free service to manufacturers for their benefit as well as for the benefit of their customers.
